第一代移民都差不多。。。
节俭，爱种菜园子。。。
昨天晚上值班，两个同事都是意大利人。当年这里工业化的时代有很多意大利人和他们的后代，说小时候上学，一看学生册子的名字，大半都是意大利人。对外人都是意大利人，到他们自己里面也分地域。不同的地方习俗饮食也不一样。当然现在都纷纷搬到郊区去了，城里成了贵人的天地。
他们GRANDPARENT这一辈，都是讲意大利语的，爱弄吃的，在院子里开菜园子种各种瓜菜，决不亚于现在的老中们。他们爱亲戚朋友凑一起聚会，所以家里有两个厨房，男的一个女的一个，到聚会的时候忙得团团转。
其中一个，回忆当年他爷爷还在自己家酿酒，不过只有他一个人喜欢。。还自己压意大利面的面片，做CANNOLI灌奶油，做自己秘方的汁。。。
他爷爷每次做CANNOLI的壳，锯一段扫帚的木杆儿，裹上面放在油里炸。因为木头轻，浮在油面上，还得拿个叉子按着。
于是他觉得很可笑，就说爷爷，你为什么不用个沉点的东西。
爷爷说，THIS IS ALWAYS THE WAY TO DO。。。。
经过大萧条的人，怕钱存银行不见了，在家里东一点西一点地藏钱。后来他们收拾老人的东西的时候，拿起本书一翻，里面掉出个五块钱或者十块钱的票子。。
Put money under the mattress, haha. Who still does that? First generation immigrants?
Chinese really like to generalize and put people into different categories.
There are many, millions, first generation immigrants and they can't be all the same. Some are born with money and come with money, some are poor and stay poor,
certainly not everyone likes gardening or cooking ethnic foods.
Locally born people may like gardening too! It's pointless to try to put people into the same groups because they have the same hobbies.
What about this: there are elderly people who like gardening because they are retired and have time. Some elderly people grew up poor like saving cash and putting under it the mattress.
Age is obviously more of a factor than originality here. If you control the age factor, then the results of your survey would be very different.
