About donating cord blood, just to tell you my experience. I gave birth in a large hospital. I told my OB a few days beforehand that I wanted to donate cord blood, he said I didn't have to do anything. After the labor, a nurse came to ask me whether I'd like to donate, and give me a form to sign, then she went ahead to collect the cord blood. The second day, another nurse came to my room to ask multiple questions about our family disease history etc, just for the record. I guess it all depends on whether your hospital has a cord-blood donation program (not-for-profit). My hospital has one, and I believe they routinely ask every mom whether she'd like to donate.
