Just saw your message, sorry for the late response. Below just my 2 cents:
First of all, congratulations on his great accomplishments. He really has some excellent options; the decision should really come down to Mckinsey vs. hedge fund. As for which one to choose, I would say it should depend on how elite the hedge fund is and also his interest. AUM is an important indicator for a hedge fund, although there are other measures too, such as the track recorder for fund over the last 5-10 years.
If the hedge fund is really a good one, then I think the decision should be more based on his interest. If the hedge fund is a small one (e.g. below $1 billion in AUM), going the Mckinsey route is probably more safe, with stronger future potentials.
