Once you retire, you earn the accrued pension money divided into monthly checks. In most cases, a formula determines the amount you receive. Some of the formula variables include your age, compensation and years of service to the company. 换句话说,公司每个pay period给你贡献的退休金都存在一个pool里(你自己的pool),工作时间越长,那个pool里的钱就越多。到领钱时你的所有的退休金都从哪个pool里出。如果每月领的多,领的年头就短,每月领的少,领的年头就长,领完为止,当然如果你不怕交税,你也可以一次全部领出。现在pension不时髦了,主要是因为历史上的原因,涉及pension与ssn benefits的有关法律很相似,有关法律规定不容许pension投资股市,只能投资money market,pension基本上就是一笔缓慢增长的半死不活的钱,所以现在各公司都转成401K了。
